Michael leapt from his van and rushed to her side. Samantha looked pale and gaunt and her breathing was quite shallow. He scooped her up into his arms, carried her over to the van and sped to the nearest hospital six miles away.
On arrival, the A & E Doctor had her immediately admitted to a private room where she was diagnosed with pneumonia and put on a ventilator. Michael had a hard time answering all their questions, he knew very little about her. He explained that she had been living rough on the streets and that she had seemed in good health until collapsing. There seemed to be a real urgency, her room suddenly became a hive of activity as the nursing staff wheeled in intravenous drips and a heart monitor. Michael was ushered from the room and watched through glass paneled door as the nurses went about their business.
It was early morning; Michael had fallen asleep outside Samantha’s room. It had been several hours since she was admitted, but the signs were looking good. Samantha was sitting up in bed and she smiled as he entered the room. Almost immediately, the beat rate on the heart monitor began to rise. Michael looked alarmed as it continued to rise before leveling off at a steady pace. The young nurse tending to Samantha’s needs also smiled at Michael and tossed him a wink as he neared the bedside.
“Is she ok, that heart machine seemed to go haywire all of a sudden?”
The nurse shook her head. “You mean, you have no idea, have you?”
Michael hunched his shoulder not understanding the nurse’s statement.
She pulled him to one side and enlightened him. “That happens all the time when someone you love walks into the room, your heart rate increases.”
“But we only met yesterday, I barely know her.”
“Well, I’ve seen that happen a thousand times and I’m never wrong”
Samantha looked worried. “Excuse me! If there’s something seriously wrong with me, shouldn’t I be the first to know?”
It was at that moment the Doctor walked in and looked at her chart.
“I had a look at your x-rays and it is not a good news, I’m afraid. There are shadows on your left lung, probably caused by continuous respiratory infections over a long period of time.”
“What does that mean in plain English?” asked Samantha, looking quite concerned.
“It means, if you carry on sleeping rough in all weathers then it will just get worse. Next time you may not be so lucky, fortunately your friend here found you in the nick of time. You have to get off the streets and find proper accommodation.”
“Would sleeping in a Transit van make a difference?” Michael asked.
The doctor sighed and shook his head. “It’s not ideal but better than nothing, I suppose. She needs a comfortable bed and all year round warmth. Samantha’s a very sick girl.”
Michael scratched his head and looked thoughtful.
“When will I be well enough to go home … I mean leave?” asked, Samantha.
The Doctor picked up her chart again and read the notes. “Well, if all your tests come back ok, two, maybe three days.”

That afternoon, Michael visited a trailer park on the outskirts of town with the view of renting a caravan for when Samantha left hospital. Unfortunately, there was only one in Michael’s price range; a tatty four birth caravan that had obviously seen better days, and was in need of a lick of paint. As he opened the door of the trailer, he was almost knocked over by the stench. “God, smells like someone has died in here,” he cried out. Michael held a handkerchief over his face as he entered. There were someone’s personal belongs scattered about the place and bags of refuse piled high.
Suddenly, he heard footsteps behind him and turned quickly as he saw a shadow cast along the trailer wall.
“Oh, boy, are you going to be our new neighbor?” Two young women were standing in the doorway looking very excited. One had straw looking blonde hair, while the other had short cropped dark hair resembling that of a boy.
“Maybe,” replied Michael, talking through the handkerchief, “if i can ever get it back into a ship shape.”
“We don’t mind giving you a hand, do we Jessica?” said the darker haired one.
“Fuck, no,” said the straw blonde, sticking out her huge tits making sure Michael got a real eyeful. “I’d give him a hand anytime!”
“Well, that’s might neighborly of you, but it’s going to take quite some time. The whole place needs decorating from top to bottom, not mention the outside.”
“I’m a dab hand with a paintbrush,” replied, the dark haired one.
“And I’m a dab hand at everything,” said the straw blonde grinning. He eyes widened as Michael removed the handkerchief from his face.
Michael smiled. “I bet it’s going to be great having neighbors like you around.” He held out his hand in greeting. “I’m Michael, by the way.”
“I’m Jessica,” said the straw blonde, almost knocking her friend out of the way with her huge tits.
“I’m Beth,” replied the other, barging her way past her friend to take up pole position again.
“Well, there’s no time like the present for getting started,” Michael said, grabbing a hold of several bags of refuse. “Are you up for it?”
Both girls giggled wildly. “Yeah, we’re up for anything.” they said in unison.

They scrubbed, disinfected and cleared away for several hours. It was exhausting working in the heat of the day, and as night was about to fall Michael decided to call it a day. All three were quite grimy after their toil and Jessica suggested they refresh themselves with long invigorating shower over at their luxury trailer home.
